Memphis International Enhances Website Travel Planning With WhereWeFly

In a world of mobile-first device users and high expectations for digital experiences, static map imagery is no longer enough to satisfy passenger needs on airport websites. Memphis International Airport (MEM) was no stranger to this challenge and struggled to communicate everywhere they fly. With 60% of their website visitors browsing via mobile device, MEM quickly sought out to build a better experience for viewing their routes and destinations.

From Basic Route Map to Travel Planning Tool

When exploring ways to make their route map more interactive and engaging, MEM found WhereWeFly’s 3D Route Map with Destination Guides. With 3D map technology and a social media-esque destination experience, WhereWeFly was the perfect solution for MEM to not only better display their route network, but enhance their overall website travel planning experience.

Going Beyond The Static Image

After rolling out in February 2023, MEM saw 12,000 website visitors in the first two months. Those passengers liked what they saw as they spent an average of 9 ½ minutes on the page.

By replacing a static image of MEM’s route network, WhereWeFly’s 3D Route Map provides their passengers with an easy to use, interactive map complete with filters to help navigate and find the perfect flight.

Each destination is equipped with videos, reviews, and custom playlists showcasing key points of interest. From museums to beaches and parks, the Destination Guides help passengers imagine themselves in a city and plan what to do when they get there.

“WhereWeFly gives travelers a rich, centralized and concentrated source of information, all on one web page on our website. It also brings an entertaining and interactive component to what was previously just a static informational page.”

Understanding Passenger Needs With Data

With every website visitor that searches a destination, uses an interest filter, etc., MEM gathers insights into what’s trending with their passengers. But they found this data has value beyond understanding how the tool is performing.

With insight into passenger interests, MEM can better inform marketing strategies to share the most relevant information and potentially even leverage it for future air service development efforts.

“We’re all looking to do the same thing: promote destinations and figure out different ways to inform passengers and hopefully increase air traffic, which is our ultimate goal. To do that, you have to have a good hook. I absolutely would expect more airports to utilize this service.”
