FlightPath3D embraces inclusivity with new Accessibility Map for IFE
FlightPath3D has introduced the Accessibility Map, a simplified high-contrast display designed specifically for travelers with visual, motor or cognitive impairments. This map extends the existing FlightPath3D offering, prioritizing accessibility while still providing the key features passengers expect, the June 26 press release said.
Inclusive by design, the high contrast displays, larger visuals and flexible navigation controls are optimized for passengers with specific needs. The interface is built to standards set by Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 to ensure regulatory compliance while still providing entertainment and information for travellers. FlightPath3D also said in its press release that is has a roadmap to expand the accessibility with audio narration in 2025.
"Every traveller, regardless of background, age or ability, should have easy access to important details about their flight and enjoy the fun of tracking their plane as they fly," explains FlightPath3D President Duncan Jackson. "We recognize the importance of creating an inclusive inflight experience and the Accessibility Map, featuring a streamlined interface and visibility enhancements, is a major step toward our goal of providing maps for all passengers.”
The Accessibility Map deploys a simplified interface, prioritizing major cities and borders to reduce clutter on the display. High-contrast visuals are combined with a palette that supports colour blind users, adding patterns and textures to distinguish elements in the map. Passengers can enjoy options on zoom button and finger gestures for display control.
FlightPath3D will leverage Luci, its AI-enabled assistant, for the audio narration functionality. In addition to providing key trip details like flight time remaining, the Accessibility Map will use the flight data feed to provide audio updates on key points of interest along the route, such as major cities and landmarks.
The Accessibility Map is available for airline selection today. The first customer deployment is expected in Q1 of 2025, the company said.
