Mid-Flight Progress on FlightPath3D’s 18-Month Vision

As we cruise into the end of 2024, I can’t help but look back with excitement (and maybe a little awe) at everything we’ve accomplished this year. Earlier, we laid out an ambitious 18-month vision — a roadmap to redefine what inflight maps can do for the millions of passengers we serve. And let me tell you, we’re making it happen.

This next chapter for FlightPath3D is all about creating a smarter, more connected experience. From AI-driven journey intelligence to maps that engage everyone on board, we’re reimagining how passengers interact with their journey.

Here’s where we’re at and what we’ve achieved so far (spoiler: it’s a lot).

Our vision for enhancing the passenger journey is built around three core themes driving our feature development:

  1. Narrating Passenger Journeys with Artificial Intelligence: Bringing flights to life with dynamic, AI-driven insights, recommendations, and updates that keep passengers engaged and informed.

  2. Providing Maps for Every Traveler: Creating tailored, interactive map experiences that engage travelers of all ages and abilities across any device or screen.

  3. Ensuring Consistent Experiences Everywhere: Seamlessly integrating features across seatback systems, personal devices, and airline portals to create a unified, exceptional travel experience.

Narrated Passenger Journeys: 113M AI-Driven Recommendations for 21M Travelers

Our Flight Companion, Luci, who makes suggestions throughout the flight, hit a milestone of 971 installs less than a year after we launched the world's first AI-powered flight tracker.

In the last 6 months, Luci delivered more than 113 million recommendations to 21 million passengers. Those recommendations include:

  • Real-time journey insights: Live updates on distance to destination, flight time remaining, estimate time of arrival to make passengers feel connected to their journey.

  • Exploring landmarks Below: Real-time views and insights into landmarks and attractions along the route, transforming time inflight into a sightseeing experience.

  • Destination recommendations: Suggests must-see landmarks, Instagram-worthy hotspots, and top attractions to ensure every traveler arrives inspired and ready to explore.

Providing Maps for Every Traveler: Setting New Standards in Accessibility and Youth Engagement

The World’s First Accessible Flight Tracker

Did you know that 1 in 6 people globally live with a disability? While many aspects of air travel have embraced accessibility, the inflight map hadn’t yet caught up—until now.

Launched in June, Accessibility Map was designed to give passengers with unique needs a fully inclusive moving map experience. Debuting on Delta Air Lines and now live on 171 aircraft and counting, this feature is changing the game. It’s not just about compliance—it’s about impact.

Over half of Delta passengers engage with the map, and 20% use it exclusively, making accessibility a key driver of engagement.

Ekrem Dimbiloglu, Delta’s Director of Onboard Product & Customer Experience, shared:

“We have a moral imperative to make the experience better. It’s not just about driving dollars and cents; it’s about doing the right thing. We want the whole industry to have accessible maps.”

A Map to Increase Youth Engagement

With 81% of families planning to travel with children this year, we set out to reimagine inflight infotainment for the next generation of travelers.

Launched in May, we unveiled a new, gamified Kids Map, flying first on Qatar Airways. Packed with games and interactive features, this upgrade turns flying into an adventure, inspiring young passengers to explore and learn as they travel.

Xia Cai, SVP of Product Development at Qatar Airways, commented:

“At Qatar Airways, we aim to enhance the travel experience for all ages. Being the first to market with FlightPath3D’s new Kids Map ensures our youngest passengers can explore the world onboard in a fun and engaging way.”

By tailoring maps to travelers of all ages and abilities, we’re ensuring that the inflight journey is inclusive, engaging, and truly remarkable.

Available and Integrated on Every Inflight Platform

Integrated with all major OEMs and IFE providers, and supported by a superior cloud hosting infrastructure, we deliver seamless compatibility across systems and devices—ensuring a consistent, frictionless user experience both inflight on wing and in the cloud.

We took this to the next level with Cathay Pacific, collaborating to launch a new integrated GUI experience called “My Journey” that incorporates a customized welcome, flight preview mode, and inflight exploration. The fluid transition from the interactive flight journey to the rest of the IFE system creates a rich experience free of friction, providing passengers a personalized, game-like flight path preview.

"We've transformed the typical journey into an interactive adventure, enhancing our passengers' experience in the skies,” said Mavis Keung, Customer Experience Manager at Cathay Pacific. “This initiative cements Cathay Pacific's role as an innovator, delivering a travel experience that's both engaging and intuitively designed for our passengers."

As we look ahead, imagine a future where every inflight journey is truly accessible, and AI-driven innovation delivers billions of journey insights and recommendations—driving engagement, loyalty, and satisfaction. With the launch of the world’s first accessible flight tracker, we’re proving that innovation isn’t just about technology—it’s about making every journey meaningful for everyone.Thank you to our airline and OEM partners, and to the incredible FlightPath3D team, for helping us push boundaries and set new standards in 2024. Here’s to a future where every journey inspires, connects, and includes everyone onboard.

Cheers to a fantastic 2025 ahead!
